Hello everyone, I've not updated for a month now. I'm sorry. Anyway, that aside, I know that it is pretty late to be talking about Chinese New Year only now, but then again, it's not over yet. So for today, I would be talking to you about CNY.
Where do we begin... Well, personally, I do not really like celebrating CNY for quite a few reasons. I know that most people would say "Why not? All you do is visit, eat and receive cash." For me, I do not like it because I feel that gatherings like these are so superficial and fake. Tell me now, how many of you actually go visiting not because you want to, but because you have to? I'm sure that it's not the case for everybody but there will be quite a handful.
So why is it fake? It is because we see people smiling at each other, wishing one another as though they really mean it, but then they turn around and immediately wipe that smile off their faces. Tell me, how much more sincere can gatherings like that get? You walk into a house full of people and look around, only to find out that you actually know less than half the people there. Or maybe, all you'll see are relatives that you would only see once a year.
There is something that I really, really need to tell you about. Each time one of my relatives (the ones that I see only once a year) attempts to strike a conversation with me, it usually begins like this "Oh wow, your hair is so long... Blah... Blah... Blah... Is it fake? Are those extensions?" Oh yes, not forgetting, that conversation was in Chinese. I translated. If that is not how they begin, they will go " Oh, you're so big already!" That is really annoying. Firstly, what is their definition of big? Big as in... Tall? But I've been this height since forever. Or big as in... Old? So were they trying to say that I've grown older? Hello, I'm growing older everyday. Tell me, who isn't? Okay okay, maybe they actually meant big as in... big... fat. Yeah, did they actually mean that I'm fat. Oh well, I won't get to know till next year comes.
Also, people are prone to falling sick because of the food. Yes, the food. Well, everyone would get sore throats, fever and such. (Okay, the truth isn't that everyone would get sore throats and fever. I'm just generalizing because I'm sick myself. Bad Maybellyn!) So tell me everyone, don't you agree that the food would make us sick? Most of us at least. Oh yes, not forgetting the group of people who would actually put on 2 or 3kgs after the festive season. (In case you were wondering, no, I did not put on weight.) Don't you all just hate CNY.
How can there be so much to hate and nothing to love about CNY? Well, there is a couple of things that I do like about it, and that is... Cash. Okay, no, I was just kidding. Let me see, what is there to like about CNY. I guess it would be mandarin oranges and blackjack.
Speaking of blackjack, I wanted to say that CNY ought to be a time for the family to get together, have a good meal and to wish everyone good health, I guess. So why does everyone gamble as part of the celebration? Well, I don't know really. I like blackjack. Oh shame on you Maybellyn, you ought to be spending this time appreciating your family and all, instead of playing blackjack. Oh well.
This is something really random too. I'm not a big fan of red. Actually, my post is not making much sense. Don't mind me, I'm sure it is because I'm not feeling well and thus, I'm unable to think straight. Or maybe that's just an excuse to cover up my bad writing. Whatever it is, I wish all of you a Happy Chinese New Year. Enjoy.
Something got me laughing and I decided that I ought to show it to all of you. If you share my sense of humour, you'll laugh. :)
Till then,
Pretty girl.
